A day to honor and remember those who have kept America’s freedom.
Sunapee Services – Friday, May 27th. American Legion Post #25 and Post #117 assemble at the Newport Veterans Club at 7:30 a.m. A tribute to World War Veterans takes place at 8:00 a.m., followed by a tribute to Pvt. Ray Cooper, KIA WWI, at the Sunapee Elementary School. At 9:00 a.m. there will be a student assembly at Sherburne Gymnasium. At 10:00 a.m. there will be a tribute to those KIA in WWII, James Brooks, Douglas Blodgett, Harland Chase, William O’Hair and George Kavisto. The firing squad and taps are under the command of Oliver Zullo, Past Commander, Post #25. Cannoneers are Lloyd and Leslie Hamilton with Veteran of the Day, Guy Alexander, WWII Marine Officer.
Newport Services – Monday, May 30th. Starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Spec. Justin Rollins Memorial Bridge, Outlying cemeteries will be decorated in two groups led by Larry Zullo and Bill Rodeshin. Groups will reassemble at the common for an 11:00 a.m. service, ending in a 21 gun salute, cannon fire, Taps, and God Bless America led by Kayla Fellows and a Benediction by Rev. Roberts.
